Unity with Individuality.

It is an interactive art project with the public that consists of placing a white sphere in an open place with the intention of allowing it to be marked in red ink with the fingerprints of the spectators.

In this case, the artistic process of the creation doesn’t end with the work of the artist, instead it is continued each time an individual intervenes with the piece by adding their own personal touch.  In this way, the public becomes a co-participant of the art piece and therefore a conscious feeling of belonging takes shape, in that, the viewer now develops a sense of protective custody and value for this piece that has been shared with them.

The sculpture represents a metaphor of the human relations within a society in the micro sense and with the world in the macro sense. It tries to convert itself into the icon of the union of a people within its country.  The piece reflects the universe, the joining of the different or individual parts that creates a whole. It is a representation of humanity. It alludes to the individual condition of man, relating to the unity in a social universe.

The white sphere symbolizes purity, and the neutral hue that is colored in red by the union of the fingerprints of different people, each one with their own identity, but united by common causes, such as the world or even their own country. Each fingerprint marked on the sphere represents a life. It is the particular remains left by each individual.

The piece tries to establish a dialogue over the unity in the world and in the country. It proposes the idea that it is feasible to live together conserving our individuality and our own identity. The red mark left by each individual evokes the idea of a blood pact, the compromise that each person must make to integrate themselves into a thriving harmonious and balanced cohabitation in society.

In my work, the red sphere is an emblem of humanity. I have been working with this red sphere for more than a decade, establishing it as a symbol of energy, as a metaphor for life, and as a symbol of what is alive. The red ball is a metaphor of man’s journey through life. It is life itself, the nucleus and the origin of all existence. The idea of the game, always present in my work, is shown in this particular case with the presence of this playful element that is the sphere, manifesting itself as a metaphor for human relations.
