Ataduras - Ties

“…As if taking conscience of her internal reality and its placement within the universal reality, she rips the canvass, transforming her pictorial bi-dimensional space of flat forms, into a tridimensional world of virtual spaces that allow us to remember the different dimensions that reality can have; realities that are presented as a malleable infinite of possibilities, depending on the perspective with which they are focused; realities that leave the canvas as truths that one day we knew and the artist wishes to remind us.”

- Asdrúbal Colmenárez, Visual Artist. Paris, France

In this series, the red ball starts playing a main role within the work as an emblem of humanity, the individual and/or the universe, that is trapped, covered and a prisoner of schemes rigorously pre-established.

The red ball is a prisoner of a world that wants to mold it to its convenience and perspectives, codifying it with a language many times subliminal, represented pictorially  by a series of symbols.

On the other hand, the red ball is found leaving, escaping even as it continues to be trapped in a certain way by some elements that tie her down.  Other times we are shown the red ball in equilibrium, as if conscious of its own freedom. About her “Ties” series, Sylvia said:

“I believe that each individual can go much further than where he is, if he acts guided by the liberty of his own spirit, if he is conscious of the barriers to cross and that personal development is within ourselves. We are rusted recess, shells that cover and protect with fear and distrust the purity and the eternal value of the true meaning of existence.   There is going to be a moment that we will understand the need and importance of crossing the threshold to reflect the light of our essence.”
